How to pick the right disc for your dog.

September 1, 2017

Your dog loves to play, so you decide to bring out a disc to see if he likes it. You throw the disc, he catches it (you take a moment to contain your excitement), and guess what?!... He comes back and the disc already has holes, and even a broken rim, in just one throw! There goes $5.00+ out the garbage.

Don't feel bad, we've all been there. That is why choosing the right disc for your dog is so important. Not only do you save money, but your discs will last longer, and your dog will love you for it!

Although 9 out of our 10 dogs will play disc, not all of them use the same one. So, we put together a list of things to consider for picking the right one for your pup.

We'll start by saying that the discs we use, and prefer, are Hero Discs .

They have discs for every dog, and we know that if you try them you will love them as much as we do.

Here are the 3 things you should consider when buying a disc for your dog:

1. Dog size

Although bigger discs are much easier to throw, not all size dogs feel comfortable catching them. Small dogs would probably prefer smaller discs, like a Hero Pup, Super Atom or a Super Sonic. While big dogs may prefer something bigger like a Super Hero or an Xtra.

Our dog Sushi is a 18 pound cattle dog mix, and although she can catch and play with the regular size disc, we notice she does a lot better with a smaller one. Her catch ratio is higher and she's a lot faster. In her case, we prefer using the Super Sonic disc.
